April 28th "It's Over!"

We returned a verdict today in the civil trial. Here is a photo from the jury room this morning at my seat. In the center is the working verdict form that I was using (I was the presiding juror)to keep track of our progress on each issue. On the upper right are my notebooks (all 9 of them)tabbed for witnesses and exhibits. In the lower right hand corner, a piece of banana bread (made by one of the jurors) with a bite missing.

More to follow on the “meat” of the trial.

April 27th

I was golfing in San Diego on Monday. Here is mural on the Commuter Terminal at San Diego Airport-Lindburgh Field-thus the mural of Lindburgh.

April 25th

My long suffering photo subject was up for another installment of “How cute am I?” Here he is again with “The lickin of the chops”

April 24th

The bird is on medication so I have to give him liquid medication twice a day (it was two meds two times a day last week). I also have to put a cream on his wing every day. It can be a challenge to get his cooperation. Here are the medications and tools.

April 23rd

The bird went to the vet on Thursday for a check up and had his “collar” removed. He is so darn happy to be free of it. He can’t be back in cage yet so he’s still in his “tank”. Here is “Bird Foot”. Phoenix was diagnosed with cancer on his wing but it is localized on his wing and we are going to leave it alone for now. If it starts to impede his use of the wing we may need to do a partial wing amputation. Poor birdie.

April 21st Redux

Right after I posted the last shot of the day I looked out the window and there was a fabulous sunset which I had to capture. So here is “Redwood Sunset” from my deck.

April 21st

Still on jury duty (now into the ninth week). This is the view I have when I get bored and stare at the ceiling, a Frank Lloyd Wright detail. I’ve spent HOURS looking at this :-), more than any one person should have to.

April 19th

Its been quite warm here today, in the 80s. Its been a lazy Sunday, doing laundry and cooking a standing rib roast. Here is Kona after his romp on the hill.

Things I am grateful for . . .

21 years and 1 day
My bird (Phoenix) is home from the hospital and recovering well.
That Phoenix’s newly discovered cancer is something he can live with
That jury duty is almost over
That I’ve had a quasi break from work due to jury duty
My husband
My sweet dog
My job that pays me for doing jury duty.
My mammogram was negative

April 18th Part 2

My local grocery store moved into a new development last year and the hold site is upgrading the shopping center. This is the steel frame for the new canopy/entry.

April 18th

There is a homeless shelter in my town (I really wouldn’t call it a shelter, its a facility that helps to stablize homeless and teach skills leading to employment). In the last two years they’ve completed an addition called “The Next Key” which provides transitional housing (up to 6 months) and “the Key Room” which is a meeting room with a commercial kitchen that teaches skills in culinary arts. Anyway, my husband’s professional association held a training there today. This is one of several sculptures they have on the property. I love the shadows with the bright sun.

April 17th

Phoenix is doing better today. He is eating and drinking but he is still having trouble with the collar. Its heavy for him so he has a hard time holding up his head if he’s on a perch. Here he climbed up onto the dish drainer where he could perch and the drainer held the collar-he fell fast asleep there.

April 16th

Phoenix is home from the hospital today. Here he is hanging out with his dad-his favorite thing to do. He has to wear that collar for about a week while his sing heals. He is eating but the collar has him really off-balance. We’re just glad to have him home.

April 15th

Still on jury duty (the 8th week). This is one of the original signs at the Civic Center designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Its just sort of sitting out there. All the other directional signage is different. You can tell its been there a while by the letters.

April 14th

This is Phoenix. He had surgery on his wing on Tuesday. He is still at the bird hospital in ICU. He’s mad about having something on his wing and he has one of those collars on, which he doesn’t like. He can’t perch yet and is not eating well so they are keeping him. When I saw him yesterday he was dead asleep on his beak. It was both sad and funny. Hopefully he will come home tomorrow.

April 13th

On my way home last night I saw I saw an nteresting thing crossing the street while waiting for a light in San Francisco. Any ideas what exactly it may be?

April 10th something different

If anyone has noticed I’ve been on a bit of a flower kick. So here is something completely different-”the mark of the dog”

April 10th

In my quest to get the perfect picture of the wild irises that just started to bloom, I managed to slip and almost fall. I think the “almost fall” hurt more than the real “fall” would have. I have a still neck, back, shoulder and hip right now. Hopefully that will be shortlived. Ah. . . what we will do for our “art” :-)

April 9th

Raindrops on an iris.

April 8th

“Fish and Reflected Fish”

There was too much light reflected in the room so trying to get a good photo without glare was tough. But here I got the fish straight on and to the right you can see a reflection of the side view of the fish.

April 7th

Beautiful lily!

April 6th

I absolutely love these murals along the Embarcadero for this production. They are so fun looking!

April 5th

The bushes are in beautiful bloom these days. And I love the colors in these flowers.

April 4th

The pastural view of Marin and Sonoma, with the cow grazing in the field. In about two months all of the green pasture will be golden.

April 3rd

I’m not sure exactly what this is—a wildflower or a weed. I’ve never noticed it before and I’ve lived here 12 years.

April 2nd

Today, leaving court, I had to stop for the three ducks in the crosswalk. Seems to two males were chasing the female and she was trying to get away from them. Must be that time of year. In California we have a traffic law that you must stop for someone in a crosswalk, even without a light. I guess these three were onto the law. And since is was on the grounds of the civic center they must have thought no one would even consider running them over. Smart ducks.

April 1st Close-up

I just love the color and type of this orchid. I have three more stems that haven’t yet bloomed.

April 1st

I’ve had this orchid plant for 10 years. It just sits on our front deck and blooms every year at this time.
