3/31/10

Having seen this bag in the window three weeks ago, I obsessed over it until I finally decided I had to have it and now it is mine!

3/30/10

How do we climb into the head of a selection committee to determine what is most important to them so we creat a presentation that addresses there concerns—they’d be crazy not to select us.

3/29/10

It feels as if the rug has been pulled out from under me, wondering if the message I heard was the message intended.

C’mon Duke-win the next three games and I come from behind to win the pool-yeah like that’s gonna happen.

The Young Victoria

I rather like historical movies, but I really wasn’t sure what the point of this one was. The costumes and sets were beautiful, and Victoria looked a bit like Queen Elizabeth (the nose in particular). But there was too much that wasn’t clear and hard to follow and didn’t really make the point. Was it a love story? Was it about a kind and compassionate queen? Was it about political control (mostly)?

The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande

I’m a fan of this author. I really enjoyed when he talked about the new building that was being built at his hospital—it was designed by my firm, and I’ve worked at his hospital in the past.

84 days (12 weeks)

since Kona’s last seizure. This puppy has been doing pretty well. This is the longest he has gone without a seizure in over year. We are titrating him down on the potassium bromide and I think its time for him to go see the vet again. He still isn’t 100% but he is sooooo much better than when he was sick around Christmas.

After feeling pretty good yesterday, this too passed; it really was a crappy day today.

FTF Weekend of March 26th

Yet another long week away from home, SFO-PHX-TUS-LAX-SFO, and precious little time to spend with my honey before it has to start all over again. The next few weeks are going to be brutal.

I am feeling surprisingly good about how the project is going and am in a good mental place right now hoping the mandatory conference call on Friday afternoon does not destroy it.

A morning spent learning about cargiving and resources for the elderly was overwhelming and depressing; if only I could ignore it all and make it go away.

3/19/10

A lovely day for the first day of spring and the beginning of more daylight than darkness for the next 180 days.

The White Queen by Phillipa Gregory

I liked it, as I have most of her books. I’m a fan of historical fiction

The Blind Side

OK-I really loved this movie. I’m usually always multi-tasking when I watch a movie at home or in a hotel room (laptop up and running with a movie in the background). But this one totally captured my attention. A definite feel good movie.

Up in the Air

I enjoyed this movie, probably because it so represents my life (with the exception of firing people and an on-road affair). But I “get” the packing, the security line (the dance of disrobing and unpacking), texting to someone you love from a hotel room (mrrad and I text back on forth during American Idol), the special lines that we get to use, the whole frequent flyer thing. Except I don’t use it as an escape from real life-it is merely a necessity of employment for me.

3/11/10

A great day of team collaboration but the best part of the day was crawling into my own bed.

3/10/10

I am so proud of team for plowing through a back log of work which was demonstrated by reports that show everything is up to date.

3/9/10

An utterly long long day with meeting after meeting after meeting left me totally wiped out.

3/8/10

Started the day off with a visit to the dentist; I was six months late for my six month appointment.

3/7/10

A very low key day haning with mrrad.

FTF Weekend of March 11th

I was in LA all week and was still recovering from whatever virus I had last week. I am wiped out this morning. I leave on Sunday for a conference, at which I am speaking, in San Diego. So I have 2 days an quite a bit on my list to accomplish.

3/6/10

A very disappointing day for my husband and his band but on the brighter side it was 13 years ago today that we spent the first night in our house.

Medicine, Miracles, and Manifestations by Dr. John Turner

This was an OK book, but there really wasn’t much meat on the bones to make it really interesting.

Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls

I really enjoyed this book. Set in the desert southwest in the first half of the 20th century, it chronicles a sassy, hardworking, strong woman.

3/5/10

A partial day in the office and another pounding headache ended a low key week.

FTF Weekend of March 5th

I’ve been sick all week and still don’t feel great. Dr. thinks it might be H1N1 but isn’t sure since I didn’t have the cough (although the cough is not always mandatory). Very disappointing week for mrrad and his band. The new keyboard player started spouting off about what is wrong (obviously lacks social skills when coming into a group that has known each other for a few decades) and the bass player quit because her other project just got professional management. Things were just starting to come together after the death of their keyboard player in December. They’ve cut a demo and finished up the mix-down last night. I feel so badly for mrrad. I know he is very disappointed, he has worked so hard and has been playing with this group for a year and a half. Guess that’s the music business. So for this weekend I have no absolute “must do” items on the list.

maybe work on presentation for the 17th

I could never have imagined the first time I heard the Beatle’s song “When I’m 64”, that I would someday being hearing it done by a barbershop quartet.

Even though I was home feeling unwell today, I spent most of the day on various conference calls.
