August 27th
One of collegues purchased this really cool townhome in old Hollywood. It is a 10 unit courtyard building with all spanish details built in the 20’s. This is a detail from the original stone mantel on the fireplace. It’s a really cool place.
August 26th
Difficult shot to take. I woke up in the middle of the night. This is the view through the sheer drape on my window to the office building across the street with light on all night. The sheer drape had a checker pattern to it so that some areas were sheer and some not which adds to the pattern of the lights.
August 25th
I don’t know what it is about this photo that I like. Perhaps its the composition, perhaps because there really is depth to it (you can see the hollywood hills behind it). Taken from my balcony at the Century Plaza.

First major batch is done
The first batch of slides and photos that I sent to scancafe.com are complete. I’ve reviewed them and am now waiting for them to be returned to me. I know need to gather up the rest to send to scanmyphotos.com. Hopefully in the next few weeks I can get that accomplished. It was really cool to see the scan of slides-most of which I hadn’t seen for over 20 years, some over 40 years. Found a couple really cute ones from when I was a toddler.
August 19th
A sign in a parking lot. I’m not sure what a u.u. church is. There is no I in team but there is a U (or 3) in church.
August 18th
The hotel that I stayed in in La Jolla has this great vista of trees. Unfortunately it is really just a gussied up Motel 6
August 17th
An old art deco theater in LA is now medical office space. It is just too weird for words.

Its been 29 days
and he had another seizure this morning. Don’t know why-no unusual stressors and we’ve been impeccable with his meds. After his seizure mrrad took him out and let him off-leash to go do his business (he very private and always goes behind a tree) and he took off over the hill. He was gone for about an hour. Generally he’s really good off leash and comes back when called. But he was disoriented. We went on a search, mrrad climbed the hill and I drove around the valley looking for him. I was at the field when I asked a walker if she had seen a black lab and she had-about 5 minutes before about 10’ off the road. I drove back in that direction. Got out of the car to call him, and then he comes trotting down the side walk (after he stopped and said hello to another walker) with his tongue hanging out, very happy to see me. He’s laying at my feet right now. We need to take him in for a blood test.

Next thing to tackle
I want to create a memory book fo rmy mom and get birthday greetings as well as memories from several family members (those few who are still alive, my mom is the youngest)and others. I will them scan them and put them into a book that is hardbound and includes photos also. To get that done, there are several steps that I must take:
1. list of people to send requests to
2. addresses for those people
3. write letter and send out with SASE
4. Gather all images and scan
5. Create book
6. Get printed.
Request for White House card sent off
I sent a request to the White House to have a birthday greeting sent to my mom for her 90th birthday. I did the same for her 80th birthday.
Received the lo-res proofs
And they are awesome! Am in the process of reviewing with my family. We can select up to 200 (of the 450 she took) and have them edited and enhanced. Then we get all images in hi-res in a few weeks. And it was so reasonable in cost. I spent all of $250 for 2 hours of the photographers time and a donation to the site.

The Other Queen by Phillipa Gregory
Set in the 16th century, about Mary Queen of Scots during her first years of imprisionment by Queen Elizabeth. I always enjoy these books by Gregory.

Its been 3 weeks without a seizure
Which is great news. Kona seems to be doing really well. We’ve upped his dose of phenobarbital and then add a 1/4 tablet right before bed to help boost the effect overnight and into the morning when he usually has his seizures. I don’t want to jinx it though. I’m taking it a day at a time.

The photo shoot was this morning
It was awesome! We had it outdoors at St. Vincent’s in San Rafael. The church and grounds are incredible. We did the formal portraits in the formal courtyard and the more casual portraits in another courtyard that was rather rustic. It had these great towering trees that created a fabulous canopy and wonderful vistas. Everyone looked great and was really cooperative. We’ll see the proofs in a few weeks and I have several shots that I took.
August 9th Today I am grateful for . . .
a great day for a family photo shoot
being home for three days rather than in LA
coming home to newly installed light fixtures that are awesome
that Kona has not had a seizure for three weeks and is looking good
having a job when so many others do not
my loving supportive husband
August 9th
St. Joseph statue at St. Vincent’s School for Boys. There is a fabulous courtyard behind the church which I hadn’t seen before. It is very rustic because it has not been kept up but has beautiful vistas. This poor statue has cobwebs and leaves stuck all over it.

Shoot is this Sunday morning.
I was finally able to get ahold of someone at the venue who was very nice and very helpful. We’re all set up. The family knows and has been confirmed. Last night I did some shopping and bought something to wear and a new top for my mom to wear. Tomorrow I’m taking my mom to the hair dresser and I’m going to get my nails done. I also stopped on the way home tonight and purchased two hula hoops and a yo-yo, fun props for the candid shots. Mom still doesn’t know what we are doing. he-he. It will be a fun surprise.
August 6th
The Sunset Collection

They do build beautiful buildings. Perhaps one day I will be able to photograph all of them.

Date is set
Our family photo shoot is on this Sunday morning. I have my family confirmed and have told my mom we have something planned but not what it is. I’m taking her to get her hair done and I looked over her wardrobe today. Its driving her crazy because she doesn’t know what’s up. I only need to secure the venue. And I have a few back-up locations if there is a problem with this one. I just need to let the rest of the family know the particulars soon, like today. This will be fun.
Monday August 3rd
I’m taking a PTO day today since I have so much to get done around the house and I’m traveling for the rest of the week
Telcon w/LB
Call lighting store and straighten out order (the wrong globe was shipped and we are installing tomorrow)
Let family know particulars regarding photo shoot on Sunday (time, attire, location)
confirm with venue for photo shoot
Go over to Mom’s and select her wardrobe for the photo shoot.
Get car washed
mani/pedi
personal spa hour
review online photos
let work know I’ll be on PTO
book car service for tomorrow
I'm so excited
I just received an email telling me that my photos are online for my review. You get to review all of them and only have to chose 50% of them. I can’t wait to see them. They are over 30 years old, from when I lived in Versailles and traveled around Europe.

August 2nd
In the background is Mount Tamalpais, which is the tallest point in Marin County. Mount Tam, as it is affectionately known as, is also called the “sleeping princess” Can you tell why? It took me a while to see it.

August 1st
The deer are now down from the hills since its so dry. They love this tree right next to our street. I was about 10 feet away when I took this.
